People often ask me 'If you don't drink milk or eat processed carbs and grains, then what do you eat for breakfast?'
Well, I have created my own simple breakfast that takes me around 15 minutes once a week to prepare, and then about one minute every morning to serve. The first thing I did was created some rules around what I wanted to get out of my breakfast.
So, here's what I did.
Firstly, I went out and bought (or requested for Christmas, more precisely!) the right tools for the job: a juicer that can quickly and easily juice whole fruit, and a blender that can blend nuts fine enough so that they can be suspended in my breakfast drink. The ones I have I would highly recommend and they both happen to be from Breville (I don't get a kickback I promise). The blender I have is the Ikon 500 and the juicer I have is the juice fountain plus BJE400, I have found both of these to be excellent, and easy to clean. From there it is simple. Every Sunday I juice up some fresh fruit and vegetables (apples, oranges, celery, carrots or whatever you have in the cupboard at the time). Around 750 ml seems about the right amount for me. Then I add around 300 ml of water. I put this into the blender along with a large handful of nuts and two raw eggs and mix it thoroughly. Then it's done.
From there, all I need to do each morning is put the jug back on the blender for a few seconds to mix it up again, and pour it into a large glass. It's a great healthy breakfast that tastes very good (I was pleasantly surprised) and takes you very little time to make.
Change to a healthy grain- and dairy-free breakfast, and you will start feeling and performing much better throughout the day.
Dr Brett Hill's top 5 tips for eating a healthy breakfast:
1. Limit your processed carbs and grains
2. Ensure that you have enough protein and healthy fats
3. Ensure that you are getting plenty of vitamins and nutrients
4. Avoid milk
5. Get the right tools and make it easy (if it takes longer than a few minutes to prepare you simply won't keep doing it.)
