There is no better way to stress out your body than not being honest. And it doesn't matter whether we are talking about being honest with others or with yourself.
Not being honest with others is a sure fire way to a stressed out body. Even if you don't have to go through all the stress of being caught out, you will have the tension of maintaining your lie over time not to mention the worry about the possibility of getting caught out.
The lies that we tell to ourselves are probably even worse. We might be telling ourselves that we eat ‘healthily' or that we ‘eat OK' when the truth is in another category altogether. These lies might not seem like much at the time, but built up over a lifetime they can lead to a seriously poor lifestyle and often serious disease.
I see it in my practice and with my wellness coaching clients all the time. People are desperately trying to find that miracle cure to their problems and looking everywhere, when the truth is right there in front of them - if only they would stop lying to themselves and allow themselves to see it!
Another lie is to do things that are not congruent with your core values. Whenever you are doing an activity that is does not sit well with your core values, be it the work you do, the way you treat people or the food you eat, you are in effect lying to yourself. You are telling yourself that it is ‘OK' when deep down you realise it is not, and it is causing you to be conflicted and stressed.
So be honest with others and even more importantly be honest and congruent with yourself and you will not only be happier but also much less stressed.
